Opening reception: October 3, 5:30-7:30
Address: 50 Broad Street, Charleston, SC

The George Gallery is honored to announce the opening of “Tilt A Whirl,” a solo exhibit by Allison Gildersleeve. A reception for the artist will be held on Thursday, October 3 from 5:30-7:30 pm at 54 Broad St. in Charleston, SC. The occasion marks the first solo presentation with The George Gallery from the established New York City based painter. The show will be on exhibit from October 3 to October 25.

“Allison Gildersleeve’s canvases, collages and drawings are based upon a disrupted narrative; one in which time can only be experienced in a nonlinear way,” said Anne Siegfried, The George Gallery owner and director. “Her work addresses the way her mind pieces together the flux of her surroundings. Each image is an amalgamation of different places and times, using the intensity of personal associations as a basis for what appears and what is left out.” Tilt-a-Whirl, is the output of a yearlong residency at the Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program in Brooklyn, NY.

On Friday, October 4 The Gibbes Museum will host an artist talk for Gildersleeve at noon at the museum. This is a ticketed event and tickets can be purchased through the museum’s website.

Gildersleeve received a Masters in Fine Art at Bard College in 2004, and a Bachelor of Arts from College of William and Mary in 1992. Gildersleeve has exhibited widely across the United States and abroad. Notable solo exhibitions include Olle Nymans Ateljer (Stockholm, SE), Asya Geisberg Gallery (New York, NY), Robischon Gallery (Denver, CO), Cynthia Reeves (Walpole NH), Valley House Gallery (Dallas, TX) and Galleri Andersson/Sandström (Stockholm and Umeå, SE). Gildersleeve was awarded a NYFA Fellowship in Painting, and residencies at Yaddo, Millay Colony, Vermont Studio Center, and the Liquitex International Residency in London.
