We are excited to announce Asphalt and Milk of Stars, a first solo exhibition by Jakub Tomáš at COVA Art Gallery. This highly anticipated show promises to showcase his distinctive vision and creative approach.
Asphalt and Milk of Stars reflects Jakub Tomáš’s artistic process, in which diverse sources and techniques converge to shape new realities and identities. His practice is rooted in spatial collages and reliefs, which he later transforms into paintings. These compositions emerge from an array of materials—online images, personal photographs, and magazine clippings—creating unexpected contexts and relationships between people and places.
Navigating the threshold between rural landscapes and urban environments, Tomáš’s work oscillates between intimate portraits and abstract compositions. He deconstructs and reconstructs likenesses of those closest to him, layering multiple photographic perspectives captured at different times. This approach results in a fragmented yet cohesive reimagining of identity, offering unique visual narratives.
The title Asphalt and Milk of Stars embodies the dual nature of existence. ‘Asphalt‘ signifies the transient, sometimes toxic materiality of contemporary urban life—a world in constant flux. In contrast, ‘Milk of Stars’ represents something eternal: a symbol of spiritual depth, timelessness, and a reality beyond the tangible.
