Franconia Sculpture Park announces its 2021 artists-in-residence who were selected through a competitive, multi-staged review panel led by arts professionals from around the country. Franconia’s artist-in-residence program continues to grow to provide artists with financial stipends, professional development opportunities, as well as time and space for production and installation on Franconia’s 50-acre site. Artists create ambitious new projects, interact and collaborate with fellow artists, and engage the public through diverse mediums that expand sculpture’s discourse and boundaries. The program and facilities promote a collaborative community, foster new work and intellectual exchange, offer exhibition and presentation opportunities, and provide artists with exposure to the Twin Cities. Franconia encourages experimentation and knowledge-building--whether artists seek to redefine process, reflect social and cultural contexts of our time, or push conceptual or material boundaries.
Ellina Kevorkian, Franconia’s Director for Residency Programs, says, “2021 brings our most competitive application cycle to Franconia as artists enthusiastically responded to our annual theme, ‘Authority, Visibility, and Public Space.’ These kinds of responsive social themes resonate with artists in our quickly changing world. Selected artists will have the opportunity to dialogue across multiple disciplines and deepen their research with a collaborative experience.”
The Mid-Career Fellowship provides the opportunity for contemporary artists to create ambitious new projects on display at Franconia for up to two years.
